Jory Micah is an egalitarian leader, writer, minister, and speaker. Her heart, in her words, “beats for Jesus & social justice; especially for women & girls.” She describes herself as a girly-girl. Jory was born and raised just outside Pittsburgh, PA where she currently resides with her husband and their pet Chihuahua. As of October 15th, 2016, she has 4,206 likes on her Facebook page! And, more breaking news, she recently signed with a literary agent and has a book forthcoming!
As a blogger (at jorymicah.com) Jory tells us, “I am a Christian, an evangelist, and a feminist, in that order.” She is very direct about the constraints she experiences in ministry and those facing all women. This is why her tagline – Breaking the Glass Steeple – so aptly captures her mission and identity. Her interview makes plain that she is much more than what we can discern from her tagline but the tag does give folks a great clue.
Jory is emphatic about her first point of identity being her Christianity. In her April 19th blog post she wrote the following:
“So no other silencing mechanism stings my heart more than, ‘It seems like you love feminism more than Jesus.’”
It’s a lie, straight from the enemy’s mouth, that he speaks into the ears of the religious. Scripture calls Satan an accuser of the brethren (Revelation 12:9-11), and he delights in using Christians to accuse one another.
We must never presume to know the condition of one another’s hearts. We must never believe that we have figured out the correct way to spread the gospel, and accuse our brothers and sisters of doing it wrong.
If we would only take the words of Jesus as seriously as we take the Apostle Paul’s words, we just might find freedom from our self-righteousness and self-judgement:
“Do not judge others, and you will not be judged. For you will be treated as you treat others. The standard you use in judging is the standard by which you will be judged. And why worry about a speck in your friend’s eye when you have a log in your own? ” (Matthew 7:1-3).
She began her theological journey at Christ for the Nations Bible Institute and completed her BS in Church Ministries at Southwestern Assemblies of God University. From there, Jory attended seminary at Regent University where she earned her MA in Christian Doctrine and History. She wrote her Master’s Thesis on Women in Ministry during the first and second centuries of the church using the Bible as her primary source.
Evangelist Jory Micah is enthusiastic and happy about where God has brought her to right now. Jory sees the path and hard work she has invested and endured and is celebrating it now. She is not done. She’s kept her mind and heart engaged. She’s discovered her voice and is indeed ministering a relevant Word for God’s world today.
Be encouraged by her perseverance, her joy and please support her in whatever ways you can as she does set the world afire with her words and watch it spread.
